Joomla Web Developers in Leeds and York

Joomla! is a free Content Management System (CMS). A CMS allows you to update your website yourself, meaning that you no longer need to pay a designer or developer every time you want to change some text, or even add a new page to your site.

Joomla! has been designed to be simple to use and if you can operate a word processor, then you will quickly be able to get to grips with using Joomla! to update your website.

There are many content management systems to choose from, but Joomla! is free, has a pedigree stretching back over ten years, and has a very active community of developers who are constantly making improvements.

We offer the following Joomla! services:

  • A brand new Joomla! site.
We can design, build and then teach you to manage your new site.
  • Migration to Joomla!
We can rebuild your existing site using Joomla! This way you keep your site structure and design, but gain all the benefits of a content managed website.
  • New Joomla! extensions.
If you already use Joomla!, then we can help you extend your site with components, modules and plugins that will allow you go way beyond simple content management.

Occasionally Joomla! might not be the best solution for your needs, sometimes a bespoke site, or a Wordpress blog may be more appropriate. We always advise our clients on the best format for their website before we begin any work. For more information, please read our article on the differences between Joomla! and Wordpress.

The structure of a Joomla! website

A Joomla! site consists of a design that is populated with content. Each time you add a new page to your site, the content you have created will appear within the professionally designed template that create for you.

Joomla! uses three types of content - Articles, Modules and Components.

  • An Article can include formatted text, images and hyperlinks. Articles are updated using a Microsoft Word-style editor. Each article is a separate page of the site, and fits neatly within the designed template.
  • A Module is a sub-feature of the page. This could be a twitter feed or a banner advert. Modules can be positioned down either side of a page, and you can choose which pages a particular module should appear on.
  • A Component is a more complex feature replacing the main article area of a page. Examples of components would be a blog or gallery.

The active nature of the Joomla! community means there are new components being created all the time. Many of the components, modules and plugins are open-source like Joomla! itself, this means that they are free to use and can also be easily altered.

If there are no existing extension that provide the functionality you need, then we have the skills to develop Joomla! components, modules and plugins that will meet your needs exactly. Whatever the functionality you need for you site, then we can provide it.

When asked to quote for a Joomla! site that requires additional functionality, we always advise clients on existing extensions that could fit their needs, rather than building bespoke extensions, which might be costly.
